The width you choose for a transfer decides whether it looks right on the shirt and how much film the order uses. These are the starting sizes most shops work from, the pixels each needs, and the two the Fill My Film app offers as one-click presets.
Fill My Film creates the gang sheet file for your own printer or RIP workflow. It does not print or ship DTF transfers.
THE SHORT ANSWER
There is no official DTF size standard, but the working ranges are consistent across shops: a left-chest logo at 3 to 4 inches wide, a full-front or full-back adult print at 10 to 12 inches, sleeves at 2 to 3.5 inches, youth prints one or two inches narrower than adult. At 300 DPI, multiply the inch width by 300 for the pixels the artwork needs. Fill My Film sets width per design and offers Left chest at 3.5 inches and Full back at 12 inches as presets.
THE CHART
The sizes below are the ranges shops commonly use as a starting point. Measure the garment and confirm the customer's expectation before committing; a 12 inch print on a small adult tee and on a 3XL read very differently.
Pixel widths are for 300 DPI, which is the sheet default. Artwork with fewer pixels than the figure shown prints below 300 DPI at that width; check it with the DPI checker.
WHY SIZE DRIVES FILM
Film use scales with area, not width. A 12 inch full back is roughly 144 square inches of film per print; a 3.5 inch left chest is about 12. Small logos fit in the space beside a large print, which is why mixed orders pack tighter than orders of one size.
That is the reason to set real print widths per design rather than uploading everything at one size. On the verified sample job on this site, 15 mixed pieces from 4 to 12 inches wide took 31.5 inches of 22 inch film packed as rectangles and 25.13 inches packed by silhouette.
SETTING SIZES IN THE APP
Each design in Fill My Film has its own print width. Type it, or use the Quick size menu to pick Left chest at 3.5 inches or Full back at 12 inches. Height follows the artwork's own proportions, so nothing gets stretched, and the DPI label beside each piece updates as the width changes.
Quantities are per design too, so a 24 shirt order with front and back prints is two entries of 24, each at its own width, on one sheet.
QUESTIONS PRINTERS ASK
A left-chest logo is usually 3 to 4 inches wide, and a centred chest print 8 to 12 inches depending on the shirt size and how bold the design is. Print a paper test at the chosen width and hold it on the garment before ordering film.
One. Two 12 inch prints side by side need 24 inches plus a gap, so the second goes below the first and the film beside each one becomes the space for smaller designs. That is why a full back mixed with left chests packs far better than a sheet of backs alone.
Yes. Youth fronts and backs usually run 7 to 9 inches wide and toddler sizes smaller still. Set each garment size as its own design width so the nest uses the right footprint for each.
